High School Kaplan Career Tips - How to Make Your Resume Stand Out and Get Hired

High School Kaplan Career Tips - How to Make Your Resume Stand Out and Get HiredKaplan resume writing tips #5: Personalized resumes are more likely to get you the job you want. In all of my years of helping people to make a career change, this is the single most important thing I can teach anyone to avoid. And I am not talking about making the resume look impressive. The best resume is the one that has an impact on the hiring manager's eyes. And your resume needs to have an impact on your future employer's eyes, too. You should realize that resumes that do not impress people will not get you very far. And so what I am going to do is share two examples.First example: There is a resume on the table in front of you. This is the very same resume that was almost used as your high school student's high school Kaplan test score. Now, this is a resume for a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management. This person is a graduate of this university. It is probably his second resume. What happen s if this candidate was just a fresh graduate and was not thinking seriously about a career change? His resume would be terrible. How so? By focusing on the career area of a job that would interest him.Second example: A few years ago, I worked with a career coach who said, 'A great student does not have a great chance to succeed in his or her career unless he or she is creative and motivated.' In fact, she added, 'There are often times when a fresh graduate has no business being at a particular college. Not only does he or she lack the skills required to succeed in the career area, but they may also lack the desire to do so. 'After she finished speaking, I asked her point blank, 'Do graduates really leave college without having the desire to succeed?' She paused for a moment and then said, 'Yes.' I asked her why and she responded, 'Some graduate students come to college not truly ready for the career they are seeking. They didn't apply the effort required to achieve their potential a nd instead spent time trying to figure out which career area would allow them to better express themselves in a certain job. It's important to remember that when you go to college you don't go there to prove to yourself that you deserve to succeed. In fact, the university is there to provide you with a variety of opportunities to achieve a great education.
